WICHITA COUNTY

COST-SHARE

PROGRAM

Wichita County cost-shares on chemicals for the control of noxious weeds within the borders of the county. This is a certificate program. Cost-share certificates can be picked up at The Wichita County Noxious Weed Department office located at 401 East “L” Street in Leoti. After obtaining a certificate it is then taken to any local chemical dealer for redemption. The dealer will bill the owner/operator for 75% of the invoice and The Noxious Weed Department for the remaining 25%. Chemicals such as adjuvants are not cost-shared. The chemicals must be approved by The Kansas Department of Agriculture for use in the treatment of the specific noxious weed to be cost-shared. Due to the misuse of the cost-share program in the past, Wichita County does not cost-share Glyphosate products for use in controlling any noxious weeds with the exception of Johnson Grass and Quack Grass although it is approved by KDA for many of them.

Wichita County also has a cost-share program for the control of Prairie Dogs. This program works the same as the one for Noxious Weeds. Rozol, Zinc-Phosphide Oat products and Fumitoxin products will be cost-shared at the same rates as for noxious weeds. A 24(c) supplemental label must be in the possession of the applicator on site during the application of Rozol. This label is available at the County Clerks Office, Noxious Weed Department, or the dealer. A permit is required from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (620-672-0720) before using Fumitoxin for the extermination of prairie dogs.
